Can I use a computer monitor as a television?
I want a television for my room to play my xbox 360 and to watch tv. I noticed that flat screen monitors are cheaper than HDTVs of the same size. Can i buy just a computer monitor and use it as a television for my xbox 360 and to watch t.v.?
To use an LCD monitor as a TV, these are the requirements:
- You must have a digital HD decoder box from your cable TV, satellite or Fios service provider. These usually have either DVI or HDMI ports.
- Your LCD monitor must be HDCP-compliant so it can display the copy-protected digital High-Definition TV content.
- If the LCD monitor doesn’t have speakers, you will need to hook up a separate set of speakers to the digital HD box.
Those are the minimum requirements. As far as higher-end things to look for, you should look for a monitor that can do 1080p full HD, which is 1920×1080 resolution. If possible, look for a monitor with multiple HDMI or DVI inputs.
